About CLL

Copyright Licensing Ltd. (CLL) helps organisations maximize the use of their information resources, respect copyright, and encourage creativity.

CLL is a member of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), and part of a global network of copyright collectives that provide centralised licensing services for the reproduction of extracts from published works. As the recognized Reproduction Rights Organisation in New Zealand for print based copyright material, we make it easier for users of books, journals and periodicals to get clearance to copy from a worldwide repertoire of works.

CLL is a non-profit organisation. It receives revenue from domestic licensing schemes on behalf of publishers and authors worldwide. It also receives licensing revenue from overseas Reprographic Rights Organisations (RROs) on behalf of publishers and authors in New Zealand for copying of their works overseas.

After deduction of operating costs, and a contribution to the CLL Cultural Fund which is used to fund awards to New Zealand writers each year (see Writers' Awards), all licensing revenue is returned to rightsholders whose works are copied under CLL licensing schemes and copyright clearance services operating in New Zealand.
