Congratulations to Amelia Reynolds, of Wellington, who has been awarded the 2024 CLNZ Creative Writing Tertiary Scholarship funded by Copyright Licensing New Zealand Cultural Fund.

Led by teaching staff of the International Institute of Modern Letters, Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington provides one of New Zealand’s most prestigious Masters in Creative Writing courses. Every year, Copyright Licensing New Zealand proudly funds a scholarship for a student selected by teaching staff.

This year, the scholarship has been awarded to writer, actor and public servant Amelia Reynolds. After working as a freelance writer, actor, editor and storyteller for some years, Amelia will work on her first book-length work of creative nonfiction.

Senior Lecturer Chris Price says, “Amelia submitted a compelling project proposal that impressed us with its imaginative approach to memoir and the polish and emotional honesty of the writing sample. We also took into account the fact that Amelia will be relocating to Wellington to do the MA. This is an intensive full-time programme, and these are tough times, so CLNZ’s help with the cost of committing oneself to being a writer is extremely welcome.

Recipient Amelia Reynolds says, “It's scary taking a year to invest in myself creatively – both financially and spiritually. The support offered by Copyright Licensing New Zealand through this scholarship alleviates some of that financial burden and validates both my decision and the project I will be working on. It gives me extra confidence and fuel (metaphorically and literally) to make the most of my year at the Institute of Modern Letters. Thank you so much. I can't wait to see how I have evolved as a writer at the other end.
