Kāpiti Art Studio, a community-based art centre that promotes artistic creativity for all, has been awarded a $5,000 CLNZ Partnership Fund Grant for their project to publish a children's book that highlights inclusiveness and differences. The book, written by Jill Drew during Covid-19 isolation, describes how being isolated feels, whether physically or emotionally, and the importance of being connected.

The Kāpiti Art Studio aims to break down the barriers to participating in the arts and encourages differently abled individuals or those experiencing mental illness to express themselves through their art. The children's book project aligns with the studio's goals and the objectives of the CLNZ Partnership Fund Grant.

Local artists from the Kāpiti Art Studio will be illustrating the book, showcasing their talents and gaining valuable experience. In addition to promoting inclusiveness and understanding, the children's book project will provide an opportunity for those involved to learn new skills and build confidence.

Rebecca Bond from Kāpiti Art Studio says "We are thrilled to have received the grant as this book will be used to raise awareness, promote inclusiveness and understanding about these issues, and connect the studio with the wider community."

"Proceeds from the book will be used to support writers and illustrators at our studio, creating further opportunities to develop their artistic talents."

Our Partnership Fund is aimed at partnering with sector groups and individuals that are connecting to, or working with, diverse voices and communities on projects which align with our CLNZ Cultural Fund objectives.
